قاضی ثناء اللہ پانی پتی 1810ء کو پانی پت میں پیدا ہوئے۔ آپ شیخ جلال الدین کبیر الاولیاء کی اولاد سے ہیں۔ قاضی ثناء اللہ پانی پتی نے سات برس کی عمر میں قرآن پاک حفظ کیا۔ اور بعد میں دوسرے علوم کی تحصیل میں مشغول رہے۔ تحصیل علم کی خاطر دہلی گئے۔ جہاں شاہ ولی محدث دہلوی  سے حدیث کا علم حاصل کیا۔ قاضی ثناء اللہ پانی پتی نے شاہ محمد عابدستانی کے ہاتھ پر بیعت کی۔ ان کے وصال کے بعد حضرت میرزا مظہر جان جاناں سے کسبِ فیض کیا۔علم کی تحصیل کے بعد وطن واپس آئےاور بقیہ عمر افتاء، تصنیف وتالیف اور نشر علوم میں گزاری دی۔ آپ نے پانی پت میں منصب قضاء بھی اختیار کیا اور اس بلند عہدے کا نہایت احسن طریقے سے حق ادا کیا۔ قاضی ثناء اللہ پانی پتی اپنے عہد کے عظیم فقیہ، محدث، محقق اور مفسر تھے۔ مولانا شاہ عبدالعزیز محدث دہلوی انہیں بیہقی وقت کہا کرتے تھے۔ فقہ اصول میں آپ مرتبہ اجتہاد کو پہنچے ہوئے تھے۔ تفسیر وکلام میں وتصوف میں آپ کو یدطولیٰ حاصل تھا۔ آپ کی تیس سے زائد تصانیف وتالیفات ہیں۔ ان میں مشہور تصنیف  کتاب تفسیر مظہری  میں چھ جلدوں پر مشتمل ہے۔ اس کو آپ نے اپنے مرشد مرزا مظہر جانجاناں کے نام سے منسوب کیا۔ تفسیر کا انداز محدثانہ ہے۔ یہ تفسیر قدمائے مفسرین کے اقوال اور تاویلات جدیدہ کی جامع ہے۔ اس کا اردو ترجمہ مولانا سید عبد الدائم جلالی نے کیا ہے
